Mission
“In the heart of the Valley, sharing the heart of Christ.”
Our mission is to be a family of faith who is seeking to know Christ and make Him known. Combining our heritage with innovation, we will endeavor to lead people to faith in Christ, care for all people, reach our community, and develop disciples for Jesus Christ.
What We Believe
Thanks for hanging around! Sometimes the word “Baptist” scares people. If that’s the case with you, give us a brief moment to outline basic Baptist principals and you may learn that we’re not so bad after all. As Baptists, we champion the “4 Freedoms.”
Bible Freedom
The freedom for all to interpret the Scriptures under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We believe the Bible transforms our lives, supersedes any creed or confession, and frees the individual to interpret scripture as the Holy Spirit Leads.
Soul Freedom
The belief that a person’s faith is personal, experiential, and voluntary. A person is responsible for making up his or her own mind about God and spiritual matters.
Church Freedom
The belief that local churches are free under the Lordship of Christ to determine their membership and leadership, to order their own worship and work, and to ordain whom they perceive as gifted for ministry. No one – no pastor, no civil magistrate, no convention or church – can dictate the local church.
Religious Freedom
Defined as a “free church in a free state” – the separation of church and state.
Baptists are a complex, diverse people. Baptist churches can be newly founded or hundreds of years old. Baptist churches can be conservative or progressive. Baptist churches can be contemporary or liturgical. If there’s one word to describe Baptists – it’s diversity. Due to this diversity of Baptist churches (and its members), it is often difficult to describe exactly “what Baptists believe” beyond the four values listed above.
Most Baptists, including First Baptist Church of Black Mountain, identify with the major tenets of Protestant Christianity. In other words, we share many common beliefs with Christians across the world (e.g. belief in a Trinitarian God, the importance of the life, death and resurrection of Christ, etc.).
Here at First Baptist, we strive to inspire people to follow Jesus by engaging them in our community and ministries and would love for you to visit us and learn more.
